FAQs
A few common questions parents ask before getting in touch — if you don't see yours here, feel free to reach out directly.
A speech therapist (called a speech pathologist in Australia) supports children with a wide range of communication and learning needs, including speech sounds, understanding and using language, reading and spelling, stuttering, feeding, swallowing and social communication. I work with children and teens aged 2 to 18, tailoring support to whatever's relevant for that child specifically.
Medicare rebates for speech pathology are generally available to eligible children through a GP Chronic Disease Management Plan or Medicare M10 pathway, which your GP can organise if your child qualifies. Rebates are typically capped at a set number of allied health sessions per calendar year and don't cover the full cost of a session. I'm happy to talk through whether this applies to your situation. It's also worth checking directly with your GP about eligibility, since this varies from child to child.
There's no single "right" age, it depends on what you're noticing. Many families come in during the toddler years around speech and language milestones, others come when a teacher raises a concern about reading or classroom communication, and some seek support for stuttering, social communication, or literacy (reading and spelling) difficulties well into primary school or high school. If something feels off, it's worth having it looked at rather than waiting to see.
Cost depends on session length (I offer 30-minute, 45-minute and one-hour individual sessions and group literacy sessions) and how you're funding it, through an NDIS plan, a Medicare rebate, or privately. I use the NDIS rate to charge. However, I can talk you through rebates that you may be entitled to under private or public health funding before you book anything.
The Literacy Clinic is a dedicated branch of my practice focused specifically on reading, spelling and dyslexia support, including dyslexia screening, assessment and school and daycare partnerships around early literacy. My broader speech pathology services cover everything else too: speech sounds, language comprehension and expression, and stuttering. Some children might only need one or the other, but since it's the same clinician either way, support can move fluidly between both if a child's needs span more than one area.
Yes — my clinic is based in Bondi Junction, and I work with families from Randwick, across the Eastern Suburbs, and more broadly throughout Sydney. If you're searching for speech therapy near me, speech therapy Sydney, speech therapy Randwick, or a speech clinic Randwick families can get to easily, Bondi Junction is centrally placed for all of these areas. I also travel to daycares and primary schools in the Eastern Suburbs.
I work directly with schools and daycares to help identify children who may benefit from early literacy or speech and language support, and to share practical strategies educators can use day to day. This can include screening for early literacy challenges, running educator workshops, or simply being a point of contact when a teacher notices something worth a closer look. For schools, I can provide one on one or small group instruction, as well as capacity building for educators. If you're an educator or principal interested in this kind of partnership for your daycare or school, feel free to get in touch directly.
No referral is needed for NDIS speech therapy, private paying clients, or clients claiming a Medicare rebate; you can get in touch directly to book an appointment. If you're hoping to claim a Medicare rebate, you'll need a Chronic Disease Management Plan or access the Medicare M10 pathway from your GP first.
The first step is usually an assessment, which involves a discussion with you, usually followed by functional (practical, everyday-focused) and/or standardised (formal, for funding applications or school advocacy), depending on what your child needs. From there, I build a therapy plan directly around what we have spoken about are your priorities and goals, and based on what the assessment shows.
Yes — assessment reports can support funding applications, school-based supports, or referrals for further assessment where needed.
